We are excited to announce that we have been invited as inaugural members of a new Trust & Safety Council in partnership with Twitter. With millions of tweets shared each day on the platform, the new Trust & Safety Council will be working hard to strike the perfect balance of user safety while protecting freedom of expression.
In total, 40 organizations from around the world will be making up the new council, advising Twitter on the formation of new safety products, policies, and programs, offering the platform a diverse range of expert insights.
Cybersmile has been talking about the need for collective solutions for a long time. To see major stakeholders such as Intel and now Twitter forming action and support groups like this is indeed very encouraging.
Dan Raisbeck, Co-founder, The Cybersmile Foundation
As longterm safety partners of Twitter, we welcome the opportunity to contribute further to the growth of the platform, ensuring those users needing extra help and support know where to find it and people abusing freedom of speech don't ruin the experience for the majority of genuine, positive, and creative users.
The Cybersmile Foundation is one of our main partners worldwide. Their feedback and support has been instrumental to us as we have continued to grow. Their initiatives help bring home a very positive messaging amongst young users. Cybersmile's insights into online abuse, swift support and ongoing collaboration with Twitter make them a key partner for us.
Patricia Cartes, Head of Global Safety Outreach, Twitter
With such a huge number of tweets being created each day, Twitter is facing a massive task in addressing this issue, a commendable one. By compiling such a diverse group to support their efforts, they have made a step in the right direction.
Trust & Safety Council members include:
- Safety advocates, academics, and researchers focused on minors, media literacy, digital citizenship, and efforts around greater compassion and empathy on the Internet.
- Grassroots advocacy organizations that rely on Twitter to build movements and momentum.
- Community groups with an acute need to prevent abuse, harassment, and bullying, as well as mental health and suicide prevention.
