Following recent amendments to policy, internet users will now be able to request that Google remove their own personal data and information from its search engine. This includes removing personal details such as email addresses, phone numbers, login data, and other personally identifiable information. Google has stated that the policy changes are necessary to remain current and effective in protecting users from potential risks such as identity theft, fraud, and stalking.

As the internet evolves - with information appearing in unexpected places and being utilized in novel ways, our policies and protections must adapt as well.

Previously, the removal of personal details had focused mainly on fraud-related data such as credit card details or banking information. The new changes mean that users can now request that other personally identifiable information be taken off Google Search using a form to report the website addresses in question.

Google stated that they will check to ensure that the information does not appear as part of the public record on the websites of government or official sources. In such cases, they won't make removals.

It is important to remember that successful removal of personal information from Google Search does not guarantee that the information will not appear elsewhere online. If this is the case, Google recommends contacting the host site directly to ask that the content be removed.
