Just a quick "Thank You" to Cybersmile

I just wanted to post a public "thank you" to the team at Cybersmile for their ongoing presence on the Internet. You are a light in the darkness on days when people might otherwise feel overwhelmed.

The U.S. Presidential election has been bearing down on me emotionally lately. I see a lot of negativity on Twitter, and I also deactivated my Facebook account. I got tired of seeing infighting among people I have known for years. It has been a very discouraging six months as tensions have risen in this country.

That said, whenever I see Cybersmile on Twitter, I can't help but SMILE! All of your tweets are uplifting and remind everyone to be kind to each other.

Your forum here -- and the "AskCybersmile" presence online -- also gives people an opportunity to reach out when they feel tired and sad.

Now is a time when all of us need to pull together and be reminded that the world can be a beautiful place. Cybersmile ties that up in a nice package with a beautiful bow.

At the risk of sounding like I'm gushing, thank you.

Just had to say it. :-)

Heidi, sorry to hear that you had to resolve to deactivate your fb. But I understand you, one does not want to be met with nastyness or even right out demoralizing and hateful behavior on ones own fb. Better to stay away and keep ones sanity/calm. To know ones limits and what "battles" to choose. As I write this your country's election is coming to an end and hopefully this hateful and disrespectful behavior that has been flurrishing on social media will decrease. It does mentally drain you somethimes, all this hateful speach directed towards this or that person and/or group. It really isn't the way to resolve any disagreement.

But I absolutely agree, Cybersmile's presance online is always uplifting and encouraging. One can only hope that with time more (dare one hope all) people with start supporting and uplift one another on social media sites.

Cypersmile, you definitely deserve the compliments - you are awesome!

And as always, everyone, stay amazing,

~Aileen

Thank you -- I have been off the forums for the past week. Just super blue about what has happened over here. But as you guys say across the Pond, "Keep Calm and Carry On."

Aileen, I decided with Facebook that I will probably create a new account and am going to give it a pseudonym -- the first name of one grandmother and the last maiden name of the other grandmother. Then I am going to only invite my family members and will have a cartoon as my avatar. That way I can still keep family up to date with my child's happenings and family photos, etc., without dealing with politics. For me at this point, it will help my sanity.

For the rest of my Facebook friends who I consider to be close to me, I segued over to Instagram and am just using that to connect to them with random photographs.

Much less stressful!

I'm still on Twitter, but it's not as stressful for me to deal with rancor there. Every social media platform is very different, but for some reason, I couldn't stomach what was happening on Facebook, by comparison.

It is great to have the forum here, and I'm glad to have the connection to everyone!

Today I am heartbrokenly sad and angry (something that is far to soon for me to talk about). And yet, I am grateful for a place like Cybersmile, where youngh people (and grownups) can come and find peace, someone to listen, help and support. I am so glad for everyone that has found this place and for anyone in the futer that will find us here - that there exists a place where you can come and be truly you, respected and loved, even celebrated for being you. If only more pople could find this place and get the help and support they need before it's too late!
I will always be an advocate for Cybersmile and for the mental health of children, be anti bullying and voice my opinion and nag on my pupils to be decent and kind, to take care of themselves and one another because everyone is so precious. Every single life!
I am so greatful for this platform and that today, I myeslf can come here and find some peace in what has been a really hard day and will continue to be a really hard week.
Stay amazing,
~Aileen

Hey there, Aileen,
I am so sorry to hear you are having a tough day and tough week.
I agree, this is a great "soft place to land" when you are fighting battles. It is good to have a community that is moderated so that people can post their thoughts without fear of retribution or harassment. I agree, I wish more knew about it who truly need it!
I hope today you will engage in self-care and remind yourself how special YOU are, too.

A big hug to you Aileen.
This platform, the forum at Cybersmile and Cybersmile itself is a comfort. Good work on you Cybersmile for creating a much needed place for a social media world that unfortunately comes with quite a few ugly sides attached to it.
Again Aileen, a big hug to you.
